WILD

My first exhibition, held in London in 2018

The WILD exhibition featured animals on larger than life canvases, giving a very up close and personal engagement with each one. My aim was to stir people’s emotions at just how beautiful and important their lives are. This was a fantastic opportunity given to me by Artistic UK, helping me to achieve and discover more than I could have dreamt of.

Esme

Original acrylic on canvas 100cm x 80cm

I just love her dizzy fluffy feathers and very direct stare. She is definitely a ‘marmite’ character, as people either adore her or are very unnerved by that stare. I personally think she looks a tad saucy and unpredictable. She was a joy to paint!

Leona

Original acrylic on canvas 100cm x 80cm

Leona took many weeks to paint as her fur is made up of tiny fragments of vibrant colour, and the canvas is huge! The original work has a very three-dimensional feel, her stare really stirs my soul and you can almost feel the coarse fur. Leona is a beautiful and powerful lioness but, like all lions, she needs our help.

Boris

Original acrylic on canvas 100cm x 100cm

Boris is a real chimpanzee who lives at Chester Zoo, he is an amazing character with an even more amazing life story. It was this story and all of the emotion I could read in his face that inspired me to do this painting. I fell in love with his beautiful old face. It was a enormous challenge to paint as this was my first painting on a huge scale (100cm square canvas). I used a 4inch wide decorator’s brush to paint most of it including some of the fine hairs. Playing and using colour in a different way helped me express my feelings and give him some life and vitality.

Original acrylic on canvas 100cm x 80cm

A myriad of colour! The rainbow and mother of pearl type effects I have created was to emulate that beautiful prismatic feel when sunshine bursts through water and illuminates everything. I have used these colours to bring a sense of life, energy and I hope a almost three dimensional feel. Turtles are amazing creatures and they need our help and care to ensure they have a clean and decent place to live and their numbers aren’t endangered.

Little King

Original acrylic on canvas 50cm x 50cm

Little King was inspired by a beautiful photograph sent to me by Michael Chadd in Yateley Hampshire. It was taken by his brother who was a keen and wonderful wildlife photographer Steve Chadd. I adore Kingfishers and loved Steve’s photo which showed a tiny small plump Kingfisher perched on a long twig. This photo is a lower resolution so does not do the print or the painting justice in the fine detail depicted.

Panda

Original acrylic on canvas 30.5cm x 30.5cm

A beautiful and playful young panda cub. This painting was inspired by a dear friend’s photo. Anne Cope kindly agreed that I could use it to attempt a painting. It truly was ‘attempted’ as this was painted with my left hand as I had badly injured my right hand. In truth I hadn’t anticipated it working out as it did, I was simply having huge fun daubing paint, including iridescent paint in my palette. The original painting is very small but also sparkly (in a subtle way). I don’t use black paint as I adore colour too much and believe that there are hidden colours in just about everything.

Little Panda prints have been so popular and brought so much pleasure. It is quite remarkable the amount of people who have shared their joy and delight with me when either receiving or buying a print. This included a fabulous little video message I received on Christmas day as a little girl (who is nuts about pandas) opened her little framed print.
